Digital Home Technology Integrator Plus (DHTI)

Profile
The Digital Home Technology Integrator Plus (DHTI) module targets individuals in the multiple industries that touch the home, including technology integrators, security system technicians, cable, satellite, telecommunications, and A/V installers, electricians, and network administrators.

It equips individuals with the ability to install/connect one or more residential subsystems but cannot troubleshoot and/or configure without significant aid of technical support are prime candidates for this module.

Introduction to Networking
Wired and Wireless LANs, Network Protocols, Network Security, cabling standards

Audio Systems
Multi-room Audio Systems, cabling types, Amplification and attenuation, Acoustics, speaker design and location, multi channel and surround sound. Digital and Analogue systems.

Video Systems
Video Signals and systems HDMI, RGB, component, S video , composite. Modulation techniques. PAL, NTSC, SECAM UHF spectrum and channels. Digital TV signals and the multiplexes.
TV/ Monitor Display Types.

Media Sources and Content management
Media Servers, media streaming, Media Centres, NAS, backup systems, MP3 players, DVD players, DVB-S, DVB-T, DVB-C and legacy systems. IP return path. Cabling types.

Telephony and VoIP
POTS and VoIP systems. Cabling, REN, PBX, Intercom and paging. IP Telephony.

Security and Surveillance Systems
Monitoring and communications, zones, camera types, recording
Sensors and actuators, Environmental monitoring, Standards and Protocols.

Home Automation
HCI devices. PC based and PLC based systems. Systems Protocols and media. HVAC systems. Lighting control, Load switching, Motor Control. Scenes. Sensors. Time and Event driven. Distributed v Centralised Systems. Protection and Backup Systems.


Objectives
The aim of the module is to provide knowledge skills and understand to configure, integrate, maintain, and troubleshoot an electronic/digital home system.


Learning outcomes
On completion of the module, you should be able to:

Evaluate modern communication principles used in home automation and security systems.

Configure a network with appropriate security and access, and also to program a home automation system to match client requirements.

Select appropriate cabling and Baseband of RF video distribution systems solution to mach user requirements.

Install, test and trouble shoot, fixed wireless, AV, automation and HVAC systems for the home or small business.

Requirements
Whilst there are no formal education entry requirements for the course, a good general education is necessary, particularly with regard to literacy and numeracy.

Mature individuals (21+ years) with relevant experience may also be eligible for entry following an interview with the course director.
