To provide a fundamental understanding of Information and Communication Technologies.


Content
MS Office
A comprehensive exploration of Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook applications.

Computer Networks / Information Management
Computer networking fundamentals, Internet communications mediums and information management best practice methods.

Digital Imaging
An introduction to digital photography, image manipulation techniques and electronic cataloguing using leading industry software packages.
To provide a fundamental understanding of Information and Communication Technologies.


Objectives
The aim of this module is to develop ICT skills and techniques through the use of MS Windows operation system, MS Office application software and the development of a critical awareness of the roles of ICT in UK industry.
To introduce you to collaborative software and virtual office tools in order to assist their learning.


Learning outcomes
On completion of the module, you should be able to:

Demonstrate an understanding of the acquisition, storage, processing and presentation of information using computer technology with reference to specific ICT concepts and software packages.

Critically assess the role of ICT in a company or sector of industry.

Communicate effectively via digital media in a variety of situations.

Use commercial software with confidence.

Requirements
Whilst there are no formal education entry requirements for the course, a good general education is necessary, particularly with regard to literacy and numeracy.

Mature individuals (21+ years) with relevant experience may also be eligible for entry following an interview with the course director.
