Summary This one year course has been designed for those wishing to progress onto a BEng degree course. It will provide grounding in the key subjects needed for continuing on engineering degree courses in subjects ranging from electronics, software and networks to mechanical, automotive and manufacturing.
Course Information The content and structure of the course are designed to provide the fundamental knowledge and key skills required for success on an engineering degree course. There are four main topics:
Electrical Science Mechanical Science Mathematics Information and Communications Studies.
Course Aims The course aims to develop knowledge in engineering technologies with an awareness of their fundamental role in business, economic and social terms. The course provides opportunities for mature students without formal qualifications and school leavers with inappropriate qualifications for normal direct entry, a route leading to a range of BEng (Hons) engineering degree courses.
The course also develops knowledge and transferable skills that are generally applicable for employment for those not continuing to degree level.
Prospects Successful completion of the course allows students who do not currently possess appropriate qualifications to join one of the following degree courses:
• BEng (Hons) Electronic Engineering • BEng (Hons) Telecommunications and Networks • BEng (Hons) Automotive Engineering • BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering • BEng (Hons) Management of Manufacturing Systems

Requirements Applicants will be expected to have successfully completed at least one of the following or an equivalent qualification:
• Five GCSEs/GCEs with at least one GCE ‘A2’ Level, Mathematics, English Language and a Science subject to at least GCSE Grade C. • An Edexcel National Certificate/Diploma in a relevant subject. Mathematics, English Language and a Science subject to at least GCSE Grade C.
A typical tariff point offer is 100 with AS qualifications used towards the tariff where appropriate.
Mature applicants who are able to demonstrate proficiency in Mathematics and written English will be considered for entry at Foundation Level.
